Magna Carta Scholarship

The Magna Carta is one of the most famous documents in history, and it continues to stand as a cornerstone of the U.S. Bill of Rights and constitutional documents worldwide. Although some of the provisions have been repealed in the centuries since 1215, the core principles have stood the test of time: 1. Everyone has the right to justice and a fair trial. 2. The law applies to everyone, and no one is above the law.

Applying the Principles of Justice

More than 800 years after the recording of the Magna Carta, some of Louisiana’s most vulnerable citizens still do not have access to justice. Especially for the state’s minority and poor citizens, justice has remained elusive.

We believe in the people of Louisiana and we’re focused on ensuring that everyone has access to justice and equal rights. The best way to support this is to encourage young people to go to school and pursue their dreams.

The Magna Carta Scholarship

To honor the important principles of justice and equal rights espoused in the Magna Carta, the office of J. Antonio Tramontana has created a scholarship to assist a student currently pursuing higher education. The scholarship, in the amount of $1,215 — for the year the Magna Carta was created — is open to university and law students throughout the United States.

Scholarship Requirements

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be full-time students at either an accredited university or law school in the United States and must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0

To apply, candidates must submit the following materials electronically before August 31, 2021. Please email them to tramontanalawmonroe@gmail.com

  1. This completed application form
  2. A certified copy of the student’s current university transcript that confirms the student’s full-time status and grade-point average of at least 3.0.
  3. A submission as described here: Applicants are asked to explain why they believe the principles of the Magna Carta — freedom, justice and equality — remain important today. Submissions can be in the following formats (must be electronic):
    • Photography
    • Video
    • One page of text

Applicants agree to provide the requested personal information to J. Antonio Tramontana. They also authorize the law firm to publish information about them — including their name, school information and essay — on the corporate website and in marketing materials.

By accepting the scholarship, the winner agrees to allow the law firm to use their name, a photo and the name of their university in an announcement of the winning application.

About the Award

The Magna Carta Scholarship may be used only for tuition and other academic expenses for an accredited university or law school. After the winner is chosen, we will remit a check for $1,215, payable to the university of the award recipient to cover allowed expenses.

The winner will receive notification around Sept 15th.
